Notice on Homestead Creamery’s Unsalted Butter

Notice on Homestead Creamery’s Unsalted Butter

Homestead Creamery is committed to providing healthy, quality foods to our community across Southwestern Virginia and the East Coast.

However, routine testing revealed the presence of Listeria monocytogenes in our unsalted butter. Therefore, we are recalling our half-pound unsalted butter with an expiration date of 04/30. The affected butter was available to purchase through the following:

  • Home Delivery
  • Farm Market
  • Roanoke Natural Food Co-Op
  • US Foods – Roanoke Division

Though it is a limited issue, out of an abundance of caution, we ask that anyone who has purchased our unsalted butter with the corresponding expiration date return them to the place of purchase for a full refund.

Listeria generally causes short-term symptoms such as high fever, severe headache, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain, and diarrhea. However, pregnant women, young children, frail, or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems may experience more serious infections.

We are grateful that routine testing revealed the issue, and no illnesses have been reported to date in connection with this issue.

If anyone has questions, you may give us a call at 540-721-2045.
