Southern Cooked Sausage & Gravy Casserole

In the cooler weather, everyone loves a heaping pile of comfort food. We’ve got just the recipe for you! This breakfast casserole is perfect to serve the family on a cold winter morning or holiday celebration.

 

1Step One: Prepare Casserole Dish

You'll want to pre-bake the lower level of the casserole biscuits so that they provide a solid foundation under the gravy without getting soggy.
Preheat oven to 400 degrees (F)
Spray a small casserole dish with cooking spray.
Cut biscuits into quarters and layer half of the quarters in the pan.
Bake for 10 minutes.

2Step Two: Prepare Sausage Gravy

Use a large skillet or cast iron pan to cook the sausage and gravy.
Brown sausage over medium-high heat until fully cooked.
Sprinkle 4 Tbsp. of all-purpose flour over the sausage and stir until completely absorbed.
Lower heat to medium and cook flour and sausage for 3 to 5 minutes, stirring frequently.
Add milk, salt, pepper, while stirring frequently.
Adjust as needed by adding seasoning to taste or balancing out the milk and flour to achieve the right consistency.

3Step Three: Bake Casserole

Pour sausage gravy over cooked biscuits.
Add top layer of casserole with uncooked biscuits.
Bake for 20-25 minutes or until top biscuits are golden brown.
Serve hot!
