Here’s the Scoop on Our Most Recent Awards
Each year, the National Ice Cream Retailers Association (NICRA) sponsors an ice cream clinic for members who make their own ice cream. At the 83rd Annual Convention held November 8-10, 2016 at the Grand Sierra Resort & Casino in Reno, Nevada Homestead Creamery received a blue ribbon certificate for their submission of chocolate ice cream and a red ribbon for their double dark chocolate ice cream.
The ice cream was analyzed by a select dairy judging team headed by Dr. Tonya Schoenfuss, University of Minnesota, St. Paul, Minnesota and then scored for its attributes in flavor, body, texture, color, melt quality, bacterial count and other factors while being compared to established ice cream standards.
The NICRA ice cream clinic offers the membership an opportunity to learn about and improve their ice cream by comparing it to other samples from across the United States. The ice cream is scored, according to color, texture, taste, bacterial count, and many other factors. Blue Ribbons are awarded to those scoring the highest marks, then Red Ribbons, and White Ribbons.
NICRA, a trade organization established in 1933, with members from the United States, Canada, and several countries, promotes and helps ice cream entrepreneurs prosper. NICRA congratulates Homestead Creamery on the achievement of this coveted award.
